Trump Launches Golden Dome Missile Defence System to Shield US from Global Threats

President Donald Trump has revealed ambitious plans for a Golden Dome missile defence system to protect the US. He stated it will counter next-generation threats such as hypersonic missiles, orbital attacks, and long-range strikes.

Trump made the announcement from the Oval Office just days after returning to power in January. The president said the system would be ready before the end of his term. It will include advanced technologies on land, at sea, and in space.

An initial $25 billion will go toward launching the project. However, the full cost may reach $175 billion. Some projections suggest it could rise even higher over 20 years. According to analysts, the space-based elements alone could cost up to $542 billion.

The Golden Dome missile defence system takes inspiration from Israel’s Iron Dome. Yet, it will operate on a much larger scale. The US version aims to stop a wider variety of threats. These include ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and systems that launch from orbit.

President Trump emphasized the urgency of the project. He ordered the Pentagon to produce a full strategy just one week into his second administration. He declared that missile attacks remain the most catastrophic threat to American national security.

Military officials acknowledged current systems have not kept pace with global weapon advancements. Countries like China and Russia are actively creating systems to exploit weaknesses in US defences.

The system will use thousands of satellites to detect and track enemy missiles. Interceptors placed in space will neutralize threats as they launch. This design allows the system to act before missiles reach American airspace.

Canada has also shown interest in the program. Earlier this year, Canadian officials visited Washington and expressed their desire to participate. They said joining the effort supports their national interest and security.

General Michael Guetlein of the US Space Force will oversee the entire project. All operations will fall under a single command to ensure efficiency and fast response.

Critics argue the plan is costly and may not be completed within Trump’s term. Some defence experts also question whether such a vast system can effectively cover the entire US landmass. Nonetheless, Trump insists the Golden Dome missile defence system is essential to protect America’s future.
