U.S. President Donald Trump held an event on the White House lawn alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk, featuring a display of five Tesla vehicles. The event, which highlighted Tesla’s technology and innovation, also saw Trump pledge his support for the company amid its declining stock performance and ongoing protests.
On Monday night, Trump announced he would purchase a Tesla the following day as a “show of confidence” in Musk, who has been a close ally. By Tuesday morning, Tesla had set up a private showroom at the White House, where Trump, joined by Musk and his son X, personally promoted the company’s cars.
During the showcase, Trump revealed that he had previously purchased a Tesla Cybertruck for his teenage granddaughter, Kai. Holding a set of notes detailing Tesla’s pricing and models, he declared, “I want to make a good deal here.”Ultimately, he selected a red Tesla Model S Plaid, priced at approximately $90,000, after Musk mentioned it was his own preferred model. Despite discussing pricing, Trump confirmed he would pay full price for the vehicle.
Trump Condemns Protests Against Tesla
Addressing recent demonstrations outside Tesla showrooms across the U.S., some of which have resulted in property damage, Trump strongly condemned the protests and vowed legal action against those involved.
“They’re harming a great American company,” Trump stated, labeling violent protesters as “garbage” and pledging to classify such acts against Tesla and other businesses as “domestic terrorism.”
“Those people are going to go through a big problem when we catch them… You do it to Tesla and you do it to any company, we’re going to catch you and you’re going to go through hell.”
The event signaled strong government backing for Tesla as the company faces increasing competition in the EV market and fluctuating stock performance.
