Trump Declares “Wokeness” Is Gone” in Address to Congress

During his joint address to Congress, President Donald Trump declared that “wokeness is gone,” emphasizing his administration’s efforts to curb policies and practices he opposes. Speaking before lawmakers at the U.S. Capitol, he specifically addressed gender-affirming procedures for minors, calling for legislation to prohibit such treatments.

“I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children,” Trump stated. “We must end the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. Every child in America should know they are perfect exactly as they are.”

The president also highlighted steps taken to remove “wokeness” from schools, the military, and other sectors of society. “We don’t want it. Wokeness is trouble. Wokeness is bad. It’s gone,” he said.

Trump’s remarks follow an executive order he signed more than a month ago restricting medical and surgical procedures related to gender transition for minors. The order, titled Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation, describes such treatments as irreversible interventions that can harm children. It asserts that the growing number of minors undergoing these procedures is a serious concern and calls for an end to the practice.

The order has faced pushback from hospitals and medical professionals in certain states, while others have begun adjusting their policies to comply. In February, a Virginia hospital announced it would no longer offer transgender treatments to new patients under the age of 18. The decision was met with support from state officials, with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin calling it a victory for “common sense and medical ethics.”

As debates over gender-related medical care continue, Trump’s address reaffirmed his administration’s stance on the issue, signaling further policy moves in the months ahead.
