Trump Calls Putin Crazy After Russia Launches Record Airstrike on Ukraine

US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia launched its largest air attack on Ukraine. Trump called Putin “absolutely crazy” in response to the overnight strikes that killed at least 12 people.

During a press conference in New Jersey, Trump expressed his frustration. “He’s killing a lot of people. What the hell happened to him?” Trump said. He added that although he knew Putin well, he could not support this violence.

The attack involved 367 missiles and drones. It was the highest number launched in one night since Russia began the full-scale invasion in 2022. Air raid sirens echoed across Ukraine throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Multiple regions suffered damage. In Kharkiv, a child was among the injured. Zaporizhzhia officials also confirmed civilian injuries from falling debris.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed it destroyed two Ukrainian drones near Moscow. Officials reported no casualties or damage in the capital.

In a social media post, Trump escalated his criticism. He wrote that Putin “has gone absolutely crazy.” Trump warned that if Putin tried to take all of Ukraine, it could lead to Russia’s downfall.

Despite the harsh words for Putin, Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He claimed Zelensky’s tone was harmful and demanded he change his approach. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems,” Trump wrote online.

Zelensky had earlier warned that silence from Washington was empowering Russia. He urged stronger US sanctions and immediate pressure on Moscow to stop the attacks.

Trump stated that sanctions are on the table. However, he has yet to impose new penalties despite previous threats.

Peace efforts remain stalled. Although Trump and Putin recently held a two-hour call, little progress followed. Trump described the conversation as productive and said negotiations would start soon.

Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire. But Putin offered only vague promises of a future peace agreement. European leaders view this as a delay tactic.

The two sides last met for talks on May 16 in Istanbul. A prisoner exchange happened shortly after, but no broader progress emerged. Russia still controls roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea.

Trump calls Putin crazy is a phrase now echoing through diplomatic circles. It signals deepening tension, shifting alliances, and growing uncertainty in US foreign policy.
