Police are closing in on Travis Decker, the father accused of killing his three young daughters. The manhunt has lasted more than a week, but officials say they have made significant progress. Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison recently gave an update at a press conference.
Authorities found Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5, dead after locating their father’s car near Rock Island Campground in Washington state. The children had last gone with their father during a scheduled visitation.
Since then, police have searched intensively. Morrison said investigators tracked Decker to the Blewett Pass area near Highway 97. “We believe we are closing in on Travis Decker,” Morrison said confidently. Officers also interviewed his friends and family to narrow down his location.
Morrison stressed that Decker is surrounded, and search teams cover all possible escape routes. “He has a lot of ground to cover, but eventually, he will tire and make a mistake,” the sheriff said. Authorities expect Decker to slip up during his evasion.
The sheriff described the terrain as challenging but noted the area’s popularity with tourists helps the police. He urged visitors and residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. “Help us by being additional eyes so he knows there is no safe spot,” Morrison said.
While the search tactics evolve, Morrison assured the public that officers remain fully committed. “You will see changes in our approach, but we continue our efforts,” he added. Recent tips from hikers who spotted a lone, off-trail hiker prompted officers to deploy K9 teams to track him.
Decker faces multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and custodial interference. Authorities urge anyone camping or hiking in the region recently to report unusual sightings.
The community remains shaken by the tragedy, and local officials are working closely with law enforcement to provide support. Police ask that people respect the ongoing investigation and refrain from speculation.
Police remain determined, closing in on Travis Decker, and expect to capture him soon.
