Tragedy Strikes at North Carolina University: One Dead, Six Injured in Campus Shooting

A shooting at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina has left one man dead and six others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours at the campus center following Yard Fest, the final event of the university’s weeklong Viking Fest celebration.

The university confirmed that six individuals were injured, including four who sustained gunshot wounds. Three of the injured were ECSU students. Additionally, two other students were hurt during the chaos that followed the shooting. Thankfully, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening, and all six victims were taken to a nearby hospital.

A 24-year-old man, who was not a student at ECSU, was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld until his next of kin is notified. The university expressed deep sorrow over the “senseless act,” offering condolences to the victims and their families.

After the shooting, the campus was placed on lockdown, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for all students. The order was lifted once authorities determined it was safe to return.

Local authorities, including the Elizabeth City Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are actively investigating the case. In the aftermath, the university has increased patrols on campus.
