Tragedy on Raymond Street: Speeding Driver Kills 4-Year-Old in Bike Trailer Crash

A heartbreaking tragedy on Raymond Street struck an Indianapolis neighborhood. A speeding driver killed a 4-year-old boy, Alan Marcelo Salas-Garcia, after running a red light and crashing into his father’s bicycle.

The accident took place at the intersection of Raymond Street and State Avenue. The driver of a Dodge Charger was speeding east when they ignored the red light. As a result, they collided with Alan and his father, who were crossing the intersection on a bicycle.

Alan was seated in a trailer attached to his father’s bike. Cristobal Salas, Alan’s father, was following the crosswalk signal at the time of the crash. Tragically, the speeding car hit both of them.

Additionally, the impact caused the Dodge Charger to jump the curb and end up in the grass. Another vehicle, a Honda, also got caught in the crash. This driver had a green light but suffered damage as a result of the collision.

The driver of the Charger didn’t stop. Instead, they fled on foot immediately after the crash. In response, police locked down nearby areas and used drones and K9 units to locate the driver. However, hours passed, and they still hadn’t found the suspect.

Emergency responders rushed Alan and his father to the hospital. Sadly, Alan did not survive the impact. Doctors confirmed his death around 10 p.m. Fortunately, Cristobal’s condition later improved, and family members said he was stable.

Local businesses, including a liquor store nearby, caught footage of the accident. The store manager, deeply shaken, described the driver as “flying” through the intersection without attempting to stop.

The loss of Alan devastated his family and the community. His 17-year-old brother expressed disbelief, unable to accept the tragic news. Neighbors also shared their sorrow. One local resident described Raymond Street as “like a highway,” with drivers often speeding through.

As a result, residents have called for increased traffic safety measures. They believe the area needs better protection for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, many pointed out the dangers of speeding in the area.

Local authorities continue to investigate the crash and search for the driver. Captain Don Weilhammer urged the public to slow down and obey traffic signals. He emphasized that the tragedy on Raymond Street could have been avoided if the driver had exercised caution.
