Meta is testing a new feature in Threads that allows users to follow the same creators they follow on X, making it easier to connect with content from other platforms. The company confirmed the test to TechCrunch, with Meta spokesperson Alec Booker stating, “We’re currently testing a way for you to find and follow creators from other platforms on Threads, making it easier to connect with the people and conversations that matter to you.”
In recent years, many creators have moved from X to competing platforms like Threads and Bluesky but have struggled to maintain their large followings. This feature aims to make the transition smoother for creators and users looking to rebuild their communities on Threads.
The feature, which is still in beta testing, was first discovered by security researcher and former Meta employee Jane Manchun Wong. Some users, including TechCrunch, were shown a pop-up on Wednesday offering the option to “Find popular creators from X.” Clicking the pop-up directs users to the beta feature, which guides them through the process of downloading their following list from X and importing it to Threads.
While the details of how Meta matches creators from X to Threads profiles are unclear, the feature will likely focus on well-known creators, but not necessarily every account users follow on X. Meta did not immediately respond to requests for further clarification.
As Threads continues to grow, this feature could help position the platform as a viable alternative to X, which has seen steady competition from other platforms. Meta reported that Threads had over 320 million monthly active users (MAUs) in January, up from 300 million in December, indicating significant growth and a strong user base that now rivals X.
