Teen Killed in Prom Night Crash Leaves Community in Mourning

A devastating Falmouth High School tragedy shocked the town after a senior died in a crash following prom night. The victim, 18-year-old Ava Lodico, lost her life, After attending her prom.

The crash happened on Acapesket Road in Falmouth, Massachusetts. At the time, Lodico was driving a white Range Rover SUV when she veered off the road. Consequently, her vehicle struck several trees, causing severe damage to the front of the car.

First responders from the Falmouth Police Department and Falmouth Fire and Rescue arrived quickly. However, despite their efforts, Lodico did not survive the collision. Authorities confirmed the incident in a joint statement released the next morning.

Ava Lodico had just celebrated prom with her classmates only hours earlier. Therefore, her sudden death has left the entire community in shock and sorrow. Graduation was just weeks away, scheduled for June 7.

Friends and family members described Ava as vibrant and full of kindness. For instance, her god-sister Jada Rose said they were very close growing up. “It feels like a cruel joke,” she explained. “This doesn’t feel real.”

Tayden Rose, Ava’s god-brother, said, “It’s just a shame.” Similarly, other students from Falmouth High School expressed their heartbreak.

One student, Thomas Dean, remembered Ava as someone with big dreams. She had planned to study nursing at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. “She was amazing and didn’t deserve this,” he said. “Nobody does at this age.”

Bea Mariani, another friend, recalled how they were just planning graduation days earlier. “Now it’s about dealing with loss,” she said.

Moreover, Jazzy Fernandez shared warm memories of Ava. “She helped people she didn’t even know,” she said. “Her smile was always genuine. She was so full of life.”

Following the crash, students and friends created a memorial at the site. For example, flowers, photos, and handwritten messages filled the space.

To support grieving students and families, counseling services are now available throughout the Falmouth community. In addition, the school district is working closely with professionals to help students process their emotions.

This Falmouth High School tragedy has left a deep wound in the hearts of many. Indeed, the loss of such a young life reminds everyone of how quickly things can change.

In memory of Ava Lodico, the community is rallying around her loved ones. They hope to honor her legacy by spreading the same kindness she showed others every day.
