A man allegedly steals car with kids in Los Angeles, sparking a dramatic police chase that alarmed nearby residents. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) received a call about a pedestrian struck at a convenience store in East Los Angeles. Officers arrived and immediately saw the suspect enter a Chrysler carrying three children, ages 2, 6, and 8.
The children’s mother had left the engine running while she grabbed items from the store. Meanwhile, the father ran toward the car to stop the suspect. The suspect dragged him a short distance, causing upper-body injuries.
The man then drove westbound on Olympic Boulevard. LASD officers spotted him and tried to stop him, but he ignored their commands. He led police on a high-speed chase through city streets and onto Interstate 10.
The pursuit ended in Malibu after a multi-vehicle collision. Eyewitness Erica Trujillo said she “braced for impact” and saw the suspect exit the vehicle and run. Several bystanders reacted in shock, but no one sustained life-threatening injuries.
Medical personnel treated the three children at a hospital, and their injuries were non-life-threatening. Another woman involved in the crash also received treatment. The suspect, described as a “male Asian adult,” suffered injuries while fleeing or during the collision.
California Highway Patrol officers captured the suspect after he abandoned the car and attempted to climb a hillside. LASD will confirm his identity once booking concludes.
Authorities plan to file formal charges. The case highlights the dangers when someone steals car with kids and shows the risks officers and civilians face during high-speed pursuits.
This incident serves as a warning to parents never to leave vehicles unattended with children inside. Law enforcement continues investigating how the suspect managed to steal car with kids and the circumstances leading up to the crime.
