Twelve states have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York, seeking to halt the president’s tariff policy, which they argue is illegal and has caused significant economic disruption.
The lawsuit contends that the tariff measures, implemented by President Donald Trump, were driven by his personal preferences rather than lawful authority. The states challenge Trump’s assertion that he has the power to impose tariffs at will under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
The plaintiffs are requesting the court to declare the tariffs unlawful and to prevent government agencies from enforcing them.
The states involved in the lawsuit include Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, and Vermont.
In a statement, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes criticized the tariff policy, calling it “insane.”
