Russia Ukraine Ceasefire Talks to Begin Immediately After Trump’s Calls with Leaders

Russia Ukraine ceasefire talks will begin immediately, according to US President Donald Trump. His announcement follows a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump also spoke separately with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump described his conversation with Putin as “very well.” He said the two sides will now negotiate conditions for a ceasefire and eventual peace. He later confirmed his message to Zelensky and said world leaders joined the second call.

Despite Trump’s optimism, peace still appears distant. Putin said Russia is ready to discuss a future agreement. He mentioned a potential memorandum to outline settlement terms. However, Zelensky said Ukraine had not seen any details yet.

Zelensky urged the US not to back away from peace efforts. He warned that only Putin would benefit if America withdraws. He also stressed that Ukraine must be part of every decision involving its future.

Trump denied any US withdrawal from the talks. He said the US remains committed to brokering peace. He added he has a “red line” for how long he will pressure both sides to engage.

In recent weeks, Trump has criticized the pace of negotiations. He believes Putin wants the war to end and now sees a path forward. Putin echoed that sentiment, calling the talks with Trump “frank and constructive.”

Russia Ukraine ceasefire talks will include discussions on timelines and key terms. Putin’s aide said exact dates were not discussed. But Trump emphasized his interest in reaching an agreement soon.

Zelensky spoke again with Trump, joined by European leaders. They included officials from France, Italy, Germany, Finland, and the European Commission. Ursula von der Leyen praised Trump’s efforts and said US engagement is vital.

Italy’s Prime Minister welcomed the Vatican’s offer to host future talks. Earlier this month, Pope Leo offered the venue after Turkey talks failed to materialize.

Despite hopeful signals, violence continues. Ukraine reported a deadly Russian drone strike and bus attack. Kyiv says Moscow cannot be trusted until a firm 30-day ceasefire is accepted.

Russia Ukraine ceasefire talks could be a turning point. But progress remains fragile as both sides accuse each other of violations.
