A North Carolina woman will serve time in prison for her role in the death of a pregnant mother. Tammy Duckworth Boone, 52, received her sentence in Burke County Superior Court after entering a guilty plea to two charges. These included firing into an occupied dwelling from a moving vehicle and obstruction of justice.
Although she originally faced murder charges, the judge dismissed them. Boone accepted a plea deal instead. She will now serve at least 55 months behind bars, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
The victim, Brandi Deal, was a mother of three. She was also just hours away from giving birth when the pregnant mother died. On the day of the shooting, Deal had been inside her home when a car drove past and opened fire. Investigators say Dylan Rogers pulled the trigger. Boone drove the vehicle during the shooting, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities stated that Rogers had a personal dispute with someone in the home. That disagreement led him to fire multiple shots into the trailer. Deal’s boyfriend quickly called 911 and reported that someone was in cardiac arrest.
When deputies arrived, they found the pregnant mother had been shot several times. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Rogers stood trial in Burke County and was found guilty. He now serves a life sentence for second-degree murder and the murder of an unborn child. His trial lasted two weeks and ended with a conviction on both charges.
Boone’s sentencing marks the end of a tragic and violent case. Deal’s death shocked the community and devastated her family. Although Boone did not fire the gun, her involvement in the crime led to her conviction. Authorities continue to emphasize the serious consequences of violent crime. They urge anyone with disputes to seek peaceful resolutions.
