Off-Duty Deputy Shoots Man During Alleged Car Intrusion

An off-duty deputy shot and killed a man in Texas Friday. The incident occurred in the Atascocita area near Houston. Authorities report the man tried entering the deputy’s vehicle. A small child was inside the car at that moment. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating.

Furthermore, the confrontation happened around 2:45 p.m. The off-duty deputy had just secured his child in a car seat. Officials say Darrius Williams, aged 27, then approached the vehicle. The deputy immediately gave Williams multiple verbal commands. Williams allegedly ignored these warnings completely.

Moreover, Williams then opened the passenger door of the car. The off-duty deputy responded by firing his weapon. He shot Williams multiple times during the confrontation. First responders provided urgent medical aid at the scene. However, Williams later died at a nearby hospital.

Additionally, the child and the off-duty deputy were unharmed. Officials confirmed they are both physically okay. The deputy’s identity has not been publicly released. Investigators have not revealed if Williams possessed a weapon. The exact number of gunshot wounds remains unclear.

Meanwhile, Williams’ mother provided context about her son. She said he struggled with significant mental health issues. He had been released from jail just the night before. Police previously arrested him for walking into traffic. His mother had advocated for psychiatric treatment instead.

Consequently, two separate investigations have now been launched. The Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney are involved. They will review all evidence from the shooting. Ring camera footage may have captured the incident. A grand jury will ultimately decide on potential charges.
