Night Stalkers Helicopter Crash Kills 4 Soldiers During Training

Four Night Stalkers lost their lives when their helicopter crashed during a nighttime training mission. The tragic accident underscores the dangers faced by elite U.S. Army aviation units.

The helicopter, an MH-60 Black Hawk, went down in a rural area near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Rescue crews faced delays because the crash site caught fire, making immediate access hazardous.

The soldiers who died include Chief Warrant Officers Andrew Cully, 35, from Missouri, and Andrew Kraus, 39, from Florida. Also killed were Sergeants Donavon Scott, 24, from Washington, and Jadalyn Good, 23, from Washington. Each had previously received the Meritorious Service Medal.

Colonel Stephen Smith, commander of the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), praised the Night Stalkers for their “unwavering dedication, selflessness, and excellence.” He described the loss as leaving “an immeasurable void” among their families and teammates.

The Night Stalkers specialize in high-risk missions, often inserting Navy SEALs, Delta Force operators, and Army Rangers behind enemy lines. Their training and operations require exceptional skill, precision, and teamwork. The regiment is known for taking on some of the most complex missions in the U.S. military.

Military officials confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. They emphasized the commitment of these soldiers to national service and the sacrifices inherent to their roles.

Experts note that helicopter training accidents, while rare, carry significant consequences due to the technical challenges of night operations. Night Stalkers routinely train under low-visibility conditions to simulate real combat scenarios. This training ensures operational readiness but also increases risk.

The Army will continue to support the families of the fallen and reinforce safety protocols in aviation missions. Leadership stressed the importance of honoring these soldiers’ service and ensuring their legacy remains part of the Night Stalkers’ history.

This tragedy highlights both the bravery of specialized military personnel and the inherent dangers of advanced training exercises. Authorities aim to learn from the accident to prevent future losses and uphold the elite standards of the Night Stalkers regiment.
