New Orleans Authorities Arrest Five More Suspects in Jailbreak Assistance Case

New Orleans police arrested five more people suspected of helping inmates escape from Orleans Parish Correctional Facility last week. These arrests raise the total accused to twelve. Authorities say the suspects helped the inmates before, during, or after the breakout.

The newly arrested include 28-year-old Lenika Vanburen, 18-year-old Patricia Vanburen, 27-year-old Tyshanea “Minnie” Randolph, 47-year-old Lenton Vanburen Sr., and 40-year-old Angel McKey. Police confirmed that Lenton Vanburen Sr. is the father of one escapee, Lenton Vanburen Jr. Officers searched a home in New Orleans’ 7th District looking for Vanburen Jr. but did not find him. These suspects helped Vanburen Jr. avoid arrest.

Earlier this week, police caught Emmitt Weber, 28. He helped two inmates immediately after the jailbreak. Despite the arrests, five inmates remain free. The latest arrest came when Corey Boyd was caught on Tuesday. Police already captured Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Dkenan Dennis, and Gary Price.

Two others, Casey Smith and Cortnie Harris, also face charges for helping the escapees. Police charged Connie Weeden, 59, for sending money to Jermaine Donald via a cellphone app. She faces a felony for accessory after the fact.

Vanburen Jr., 27, faces charges for illegal weapons possession, obstruction of justice, and bringing contraband into prison. Jermaine Donald, 42, stands accused of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm as a felon. Antoine Massey, 32, faces domestic abuse, theft of a vehicle, and parole violation charges.

Derrick Groves, 27, faces multiple attempted murder and murder charges. He also allegedly attacked a correctional officer. Leo O. Tate Sr., 31, faces burglary, illegal weapons possession, vehicle theft, and drug charges.

Police keep working hard to stop those helping the inmates evade capture. They urge anyone with information to come forward. The department aims to catch all fugitives quickly and bring them to justice.
