Michael Patrick Dies at 35 after Battling Neurological Disease

Actor and writer Michael Patrick has died at 35 after a long battle with a neurological disease that inspired many. The neurological disease battle forced him into hospice care after he faced rapid physical decline and limitations. Patrick, an Irish native, gained recognition for appearing in a season six episode of Game of Thrones.

Patrick’s wife, Naomi Sheehan, announced his death and expressed profound grief at losing a beloved husband and friend. She described Patrick as a joyful, vibrant man who inspired everyone he met throughout his life. In February 2023, Patrick received the incurable diagnosis of Motor Neuron Disease, a condition that attacks muscles controlling movement.

The neurological disease battle caused progressive weakness, stiffness, and loss of muscle function, severely impacting his daily activities. ALS is the most common type of Motor Neuron Disease, though his exact subtype remained private with the family. Patrick shared optimism in his final social media post, noting that he still had plans and things to experience.

He began acting at the University of Cambridge, performing with the Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe, which shaped his early career. Patrick continued training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, refining skills that later led to screen opportunities internationally. His career included roles in Blue Lights, This Town, My Left Nut, and multiple episodes of Blasts from the Past.

Patrick also co-wrote My Left Nut, inspired by his teenage experiences, highlighting his creative contributions behind and in front of the cameras. His most recent role appeared in the 2025 German television film Mordlichtern- Tod auf den Färöer Inseln, reflecting his ongoing commitment to acting.

Sheehan praised Patrick’s courage, humor, and love, emphasizing how he lived fully despite the neurological disease battle limiting his body. She shared that Patrick valued simple joys in life, quoting a favorite line about eating, drinking, and being loved daily. Friends and family described him as a generous spirit who brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth to every encounter.

Patrick’s legacy continues to inspire fellow actors, writers, and patients confronting neurological conditions, highlighting perseverance and creativity despite adversity. The neurological disease battle that claimed his life underscores the urgent need for research and support for those affected globally.
