Meta Launches WhatsApp for iPad After 15 Years

Meta has finally launched WhatsApp for iPad, ending a 15-year wait. The messaging giant introduced a dedicated iPad app available today on the App Store. This release comes well after WhatsApp’s 2009 debut and the iPad’s 2010 launch.

Meta’s WhatsApp for iPad includes many features from the iPhone app. Users can join audio and video calls with up to 32 people. They can switch between the front and rear cameras easily. Also, screen sharing during calls lets participants collaborate better.

Moreover, Meta designed the app to work smoothly with iPadOS multitasking. It supports Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over. This lets users check messages while browsing the web or watching videos. Thanks to this, WhatsApp for iPad offers true multitasking on a bigger screen.

Before Meta released this app, iPad users had limited WhatsApp options. They had to use the web version or desktop apps, which felt clunky. Meta’s new app finally gives users a native iPad experience, answering a long-standing demand.

Meta’s WhatsApp head, Will Cathcart, expressed excitement last year. He said Meta would “love” to build a dedicated iPad app. Many users have wanted this for years, and Meta has now delivered.

Interestingly, Meta’s official WhatsApp account teased the release on X with an eyes emoji. Few expected the app to launch this soon, making this a surprise. Meta also reportedly plans an Instagram app optimized for iPad but has said little about it.

In conclusion, Meta’s WhatsApp for iPad brings a powerful, native messaging app to larger screens. It supports multitasking, group calls, and screen sharing. Meta’s new app finally offers the convenience iPad users have awaited for over 15 years.
