McDonald’s Hiring 375,000 Workers with Trump Labor Secretary Present at Launch

McDonald’s has announced a major summer hiring initiative. The fast-food giant plans to recruit up to 375,000 workers across its U.S. restaurants. Both company-owned and franchised locations will take part in this push.

The announcement came at a press event held Monday. U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer attended the event, signaling close ties between McDonald’s and the Trump administration. The company is increasingly aligning itself with Trump’s second-term labor policies.

McDonald’s is one of the largest private employers in the country. According to the company, one in eight Americans has worked at a McDonald’s restaurant. This latest hiring spree marks the company’s largest in years. For comparison, it targeted 260,000 hires during summer 2020.

The company’s renewed focus on Washington engagement comes with strategic aims. By working closely with Trump officials, McDonald’s may hope to avoid unfavorable labor rules. Concerns include pro-union legislation and the joint employer rule. Chavez-DeRemer previously supported bills that fast-food companies opposed.

McDonald’s donated $1 million to Trump’s second inauguration. That marked its first major political donation in over ten years. Fast-food leaders from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Yum Brands reportedly met with Trump’s team before he took office. Key topics included franchise laws and workforce regulation.

At Monday’s event, McDonald’s and the Labor Secretary celebrated the 10th anniversary of “Archways to Opportunity.” This program offers tuition support and helps employees earn high school diplomas. It is part of McDonald’s broader effort to improve its public image and support long-term workers.

Summer always brings increased demand to fast-food locations. The company wants enough staff to handle rising foot traffic and drive-thru orders. With 900 new U.S. locations planned by 2027, McDonald’s is clearly betting on growth.

Trump has long been a fan of the chain’s food. Though the company claims to avoid political fights, it remains part of the national conversation. McDonald’s hiring 375,000 workers could boost its presence and political standing in the months ahead.
