McDonald’s is giving night owls more reasons to celebrate this summer by extending operating hours at most U.S. locations. The fast-food giant announced it will keep restaurants open until midnight or later, capitalizing on growing late-night demand.
This expansion excludes locations in airports, malls, or other venues with restricted hours. The company emphasized the move aligns with customer desires, stating: “There’s no better way to end an unforgettable night than with your favorite McDonald’s order.”
The extended service comes alongside McDonald’s massive hiring initiative aiming to bring 375,000 new employees onboard this summer. This recruitment drive represents one of the chain’s largest staffing expansions in recent years as it prepares for increased summer traffic.
Most core menu items will remain available during late-night hours, though final offerings will vary by location as franchisees maintain control over individual menus. To promote the expanded hours, McDonald’s launched a social media giveaway for 1,000 free McCrispy Strips and will distribute merchandise at concerts in major cities.
This strategic expansion supports McDonald’s ambitious growth targets, including plans to operate 50,000 global locations by 2027. The company currently employs over 2 million workers worldwide, with 150,000 in corporate and company-owned U.S. restaurants.
Industry analysts note the extended hours and hiring surge reflect McDonald’s confidence in consumer spending despite economic uncertainties. The move also positions the chain to better compete in the growing late-night fast food market.
