Kash Patel, recently appointed to lead the FBI, emphasized that Americans deserve full transparency. He confirmed that one of the most debated topics—whether the FBI had sources on the ground during the riots—is nearing resolution.
According to Patel, the agency has gathered definitive information and is now working with other institutions to release it. He stressed that the answer could surprise Americans, especially in light of previous statements by former FBI leadership.
In 2024, a Justice Department report revealed there were 26 confidential human sources in the crowd on January 6. Of those, three were directly tasked by the FBI. One of them entered the Capitol. The other two entered restricted areas outside the building.
Patel confirmed that FBI sources were not told to break the law or incite violence. However, he noted that being paid to attend an event as a source still requires accountability. He criticized former Director Christopher Wray for avoiding direct answers on the matter in past congressional hearings.
Instead of vague explanations, Patel said the FBI must deliver facts to lawmakers and the public. He expressed frustration over the slow pace of previous responses and pledged a new era of openness.
Transparency, according to Patel, is now a top goal. He aims to rebuild trust in the FBI by directly addressing lingering concerns. That includes follow-ups on major unresolved incidents linked to January 6.
Additional investigations are also underway. Patel referenced probes into pipe bombs placed outside party offices and the discovery of cocaine at the White House. He also mentioned further disclosures on the “Crossfire Hurricane” inquiry into alleged Trump-Russia ties.
By promising timely updates and straightforward facts, Patel hopes to reset the FBI’s relationship with the public. He believes Americans deserve truth, not deflection.
