A tragic Kentucky church shooting claimed the lives of two women in a violent rampage that began near Blue Grass Airport and ended at a local church. Authorities identified the shooter as Guy House, a man personally connected to the victims.
The incident began near Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport when House’s vehicle triggered a license plate alert. An officer attempted to stop him. Instead, House opened fire and wounded the officer before fleeing the area.
House then drove around 15 miles across town and arrived at Richmond Road Baptist Church. Investigators said he had personal ties to people attending the service. Inside the church, House confronted Star Rutherford and demanded to see the mother of his three children.
When told she wasn’t present, House allegedly said, “Well, someone is gonna have to die then.” He then fatally shot Beverly Gumm, 72, Rutherford’s mother, who tried to take cover. House continued the Kentucky church shooting outside the building, where he shot and killed Christina Combs, 34, Rutherford’s sister.
Combs was the sister of the mother of House’s children, deepening the personal motive behind the attack. Two other men were also shot and injured—one critically and the other in stable condition.
The police officer wounded earlier was also reported to be in stable condition. Responding officers later shot and killed House at the church scene.
Rutherford later confirmed the deaths of her mother and sister on social media and shared fundraisers for their families. She thanked everyone for their prayers and support.
Kentucky officials strongly condemned the Kentucky church shooting. Governor Andy Beshear and Attorney General Russell Coleman called for unity and support for victims.
Coleman said violence had entered a sacred space and shook the entire state. Police are continuing the investigation as the community mourns a devastating and targeted tragedy.
