Intel’s New CEO Lip-Bu Tan Lands $67 Million Compensation Package, Including $66 Million in Stock Awards

Intel’s newly appointed CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, will receive a compensation package worth approximately $67 million, combining a $1 million salary with $66 million in stock options and grants, according to a recent SEC filing. Tan, a chip industry veteran, steps into the role after Pat Gelsinger’s departure in December 2024, with his appointment already boosting Intel’s stock by nearly 20% this year.

The package includes a $1 million base salary, eligibility for a $2 million annual bonus, and long-term equity grants valued at $14.4 million, vesting over five years. Tan also receives a $17 million performance-based stock grant, contingent on Intel’s share price performance over the next three years, alongside $9.6 million in stock options and a $25 million new hire option grant.

Intel stated that the majority of Tan’s compensation is equity-based, aligning with long-term shareholder value creation. Tan has also committed to purchasing $25 million in Intel shares to qualify for the awards. His appointment comes as Intel seeks to regain its competitive edge amid challenges from rivals like AMD and NVIDIA.
