Impaired driver causes tragedy: Father killed, fiancée injured while fixing flat tire in North Carolina

Impaired driver causes tragedy on North Carolina roadside, killing father and injuring fiancée

Impaired driver causes tragedy in North Carolina after crashing into a couple fixing a flat tire.

Just after midnight Christopher Hammonds and his fiancée Lisa stopped along Highway 29 in Greensboro.

They pulled over after their Jeep Grand Cherokee suffered a blowout and turned on their hazard lights.

As they worked on the tire, a vehicle suddenly veered onto the shoulder and hit them.

Police say 25-year-old Robert Lynn Faison Jr. drove that vehicle while impaired.

He struck both the couple and their SUV during his northbound drive.

Emergency crews responded quickly and took everyone involved to nearby hospitals.

The impact killed Hammonds instantly, while Lisa suffered life-threatening injuries.

Doctors diagnosed her with collapsed lungs, multiple broken bones, and internal damage.

Just weeks earlier, she had completed breast cancer treatment.

Now, she faces a long and difficult rehabilitation process.

Police charged Faison with five serious offenses related to the crash.

Those include felony death by vehicle and felony serious injury by vehicle.

They also charged him with DWI, failing to reduce speed, and losing lane control.

Impaired driver causes tragedy that left Hammonds’ family grieving and overwhelmed.

He leaves behind four children, including two who will graduate in the next year.

His daughter Tiffany expressed deep sorrow about losing her father before her graduation.

“He gave the best hugs,” she said. “Now I won’t hear his voice again.”

Hammonds’ sister Connie Anderson urged others to never drive under the influence.

“One bad decision destroyed lives,” she said through tears.

Family and friends launched two online fundraisers to support funeral and medical costs.

So far, those campaigns have raised over $3,000, but expenses continue to grow.

Loved ones hope Lisa’s recovery will be possible with community support.

Impaired driver causes tragedy, but the family fights to honor Hammonds’ memory and protect others.
