ICE Officers Injured During Arrest of Cuban National in Minnesota

Two federal immigration officers sustained injuries in Minnesota. A violent arrest attempt caused these injuries on Sunday. A Cuban national allegedly attacked the agents deliberately. He rammed official vehicles during the chaotic encounter. The incident began with a lawful traffic stop in St. Paul. Officers identified Juan Carlos Rodrigues Romero there. He initially refused commands to roll down his window.

Consequently, Romero drove off and struck one officer immediately. He then led pursuing agents to a parking lot. Romero struck two parked vehicles during this flight. Officers again surrounded him and issued commands. He then rammed an ICE vehicle aggressively. Romero also struck another officer directly with his car. One agent then fired two defensive gunshots. Those rounds fortunately did not hit anyone.

Moreover, Romero fled once more to his apartment complex. He rammed another ICE vehicle at the entrance. Romero then attempted to escape finally on foot. Officers chased him down toward his apartment unit. They brought the resisting suspect to the ground. Romero then bit one officer during the violent struggle. Agents eventually subdued him and applied handcuffs. Both ICE officers injured required hospital evaluation later.

Furthermore, Romero also received medical care after the arrest. He remains in federal immigration custody currently. Authorities confirm his entry via a specific process. Romero used the CBP One app for admission in 2024. This encounter highlights the dangers officers face regularly. The investigation into the full incident continues now. Such violent resistance poses serious risks to public safety. The community and officials condemn this attack strongly.
