A shocking discovery brought a major road construction project to a stop in Marana, Arizona. Workers found human remains during excavation near the intersection of Twin Peaks Road and Silverbell Road. The land had recently been purchased by the town of Marana for road expansion.
The construction crew acted quickly after spotting what looked like human bones. They notified the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD). Deputies from the Tucson Mountain District arrived fast and confirmed that the remains were human. PCSD’s Homicide Unit then took over the scene and began a full investigation.
Angelica Carrillo, a spokesperson for PCSD, spoke to the media the next day. She explained that the remains found during road work had likely been buried for more than 20 years. Although police have not yet identified the victim, they believe the person died decades ago.
Carrillo noted that the investigation was still in its early stages. She shared no details about the age, sex, or cause of death. She said officials would release more information as it becomes available. Investigators continued to comb through the site carefully.

Local resident Araceli Maybury expressed her concerns. She said the discovery shocked her and added that many school buses use that road daily. She worried the traffic buildup could affect student safety and travel time.
Due to the remains found during road work, police shut down all construction activities. Detectives will remain on-site until they finish collecting evidence and clear the area.
