A leading House Republican is spearheading a formal criticism of the Biden administration’s gun control approach on Thursday. House Small Business Committee Chair Roger Williams, a Texas Republican, is introducing a resolution that strongly rebukes the policies of the former administration while praising the current White House for taking steps to protect Second Amendment rights by reviewing and potentially eliminating any infringements on Americans’ constitutional freedoms.
The resolution has the support of at least 14 fellow Republicans in the House. Williams stated that the Biden administration and its left-wing allies have pushed radical measures to criminalize law-abiding gun owners, threatening the Second Amendment. He emphasized, “This resolution reaffirms congressional support for the Second Amendment and acknowledges efforts to protect American gun owners by dismantling Biden’s infringements on our constitutional rights.”
The resolution also praises the previous administration’s efforts to safeguard gun owners’ rights. Under President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi was tasked with conducting a 30-day review to identify any government actions infringing on the Second Amendment. Following the review, Bondi established a new task force to focus on advancing pro-gun policies and defending gun owners from overreach.
Additionally, the Department of Justice recently reversed a policy from the previous administration that allowed for the revocation of firearm dealers’ licenses for minor infractions. Gun rights advocates have criticized the policy for placing excessive burdens on dealers due to accidental clerical errors. The resolution asserts disapproval of the Biden administration’s gun control measures, criticizing the government’s stance toward the lawful gun industry. It also supports the efforts made to repeal these policies and commends the former president’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and defending the right to bear arms.
Coinciding with Second Amendment Day, the resolution also has the backing of prominent gun rights organizations.
