Altman shared a remarkable moment on Theo Von’s podcast, showing how GPT-5 answered a question even he couldn’t solve. He described the experience as giving him a “weird feeling.” This demonstration highlights the model’s advanced reasoning power.
Since GPT-4’s debut, anticipation has steadily built for GPT-5. Rumors swirled about its release but OpenAI held back, reserving the GPT-5 name for this future model. The upcoming release will feature multiple versions: a main model for ChatGPT and API users, plus smaller “mini” and “nano” versions accessible through the API.
Technical glimpses reveal the model’s focus on combining large language and reasoning capabilities. References like “gpt-5-reasoning-alpha” hint that final tests and security reviews are underway.
