Google Removes Gemini AI from iOS Google App, Directs Users to Dedicated App

Google announced on Wednesday that it is removing its Gemini AI model from the Google app on iOS, requiring Apple users to download the standalone Gemini app to continue accessing the chatbot.

Initially, Google integrated Gemini AI into its long-standing Google app for iPhones and iPads, which has been available since 2008. However, in November, the company introduced a dedicated Gemini app, giving iOS users the option to access the AI model through either platform. Now, Google is streamlining the experience by making the Gemini app the sole access point on iOS.

“We’re making some changes to create an even better Gemini experience on iOS,” Google wrote in an email to users. “Gemini is now available as its own app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini. To continue using Gemini, download the new Gemini app from the App Store.”

While the Gemini app is free to download, access to premium features—such as Gemini Live and Workspace app integration—will require a Gemini Advanced subscription, available through Google’s $20 per month One AI Premium plan.

This move signals Google’s continued efforts to expand and refine its AI offerings while encouraging users to adopt the standalone Gemini experience.
