Google Brings Gemini to iPhone Lock Screens with Six New Widgets

Google has introduced six new lock screen widgets and Control Center shortcuts for Gemini on iPhones, making access to the AI assistant faster and more seamless than ever. The update integrates Gemini more deeply into iOS, allowing users to interact with the AI without unlocking their phones.

The new lock screen widgets provide instant access to different Gemini functions. Previously, users had to unlock their phones, open the app, and select their desired feature. Now, with just a single tap, they can jump straight into an action.

Among the new widgets is “Type Prompt”, which allows users to quickly send a text-based question to Gemini without launching the full app—perfect for quick fact-checking. “Talk Live” lets users engage in real-time conversations instantly, skipping the step of manually opening a chat. “Open Mic” is ideal for hands-free interactions, making it easier to set reminders, schedule meetings, or dictate messages on the go.

The update also enhances Gemini’s visual capabilities with camera-based features. “Use Camera” allows users to snap a photo and ask Gemini about what they see, whether it’s identifying an object or translating a foreign text. “Share Image”and “Share File” let users upload media for Gemini to analyze, whether for information, inspiration, or assistance.

For those who prefer a more discreet integration, Gemini shortcuts can be placed in the iPhone’s Control Center or even assigned to the lock screen’s corner buttons, replacing the flashlight or camera. This move signals Google’s intent to position Gemini as a more accessible AI assistant for iPhone users—potentially even more so than Apple’s own Siri.
