Google Assistant Support Ends on Fitbit Watches as Gemini Takes Over

Google is quietly phasing out support for Google Assistant on Fitbit smartwatches. In a recent update shared through community forums and email notifications, the company confirmed that Assistant functionality on several Fitbit devices including the Fitbit Sense, Sense 2, Versa 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4 will be shut down in the coming weeks.

Users may have already started seeing a notification on their watches stating: “Google Assistant on Fitbit watches is being turned down, this feature will stop working in the coming weeks.” While these devices previously supported voice control via Google Assistant, Fitbit users will now have to rely on Amazon Alexa, which remains available in supported regions like the U.S.

This move aligns with Google’s broader strategy to sunset Google Assistant features in favor of Gemini, its new AI assistant. However, Gemini is being developed for Wear OS devices not Fitbit OS which means older Fitbit models likely won’t receive the new assistant upgrade.

Though unexpected, this change reflects Google’s shift toward unifying its AI and voice assistant efforts under Gemini, even if it means pulling support from its own products.
