Google has confirmed that the long-anticipated Pixel 6a battery update will arrive on July 8. This mandatory update targets a known issue affecting the phone’s battery performance. Users have reported that without this update, certain devices may overheat.
To prepare for this rollout, Google removed all factory images for the Pixel 6a. This move signals the importance of the fix. Previously, the same thing happened before the Pixel 4a battery update launched.
Only some Pixel 6a units require this update. Google said last month that the problem doesn’t affect all devices. However, every Pixel 6a model will still receive the update. This ensures consistent performance across the lineup.
The Pixel 6a battery update will slightly lower the battery capacity. It will also reduce charging performance after 400 charging cycles. This trade-off helps prevent overheating and extends device lifespan.
If your Pixel 6a is part of the affected batch, you may qualify for Google’s support program. Eligible users could receive a free battery replacement, a cash payment, or a discount on a new device. Users will also be notified after 375 charge cycles if their phone is at risk.
To find out if your device qualifies, use the Pixel 6a support tool. The process is quick and helps you avoid potential issues later. Google has added a “coming soon” message to the Pixel 6a factory image page. OTA files have also been pulled in preparation for this major update.
Additionally, Google is launching walk-in battery replacement services starting July 21. These services will be available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India. Mail-in repair options will also open in the U.S. and India.
The Pixel 6a battery update arrives just in time to prevent further problems and improve device safety. Make sure your Pixel 6a is ready for the update on July 8.
