Google Ads Suspends Over 39 Million Advertisers, Removes 5.1 Billion Ads in 2024 Crackdown

Google has released its latest Ads Safety Report, revealing a sharp rise in enforcement actions during 2024. The company suspended 39.2 million advertiser accounts, a staggering 200% increase from 2023’s 12.7 million, as part of its ongoing efforts to crack down on policy violations and malicious activity in the ad space.

Key highlights from the report include:
• Over 5.1 billion ads removed for violating ad policies
• More than 9.1 billion ads restricted due to content or targeting issues
• Ads blocked or restricted on 1.3 billion publisher pages
• Over 220,000 publisher sites hit with site-level enforcement
• More than 30 updates made to ads and publisher policies

Google attributed this boost in enforcement to improvements in artificial intelligence, noting over 50 upgrades to its large language models (LLMs). These enhancements led to faster, more precise detection and enforcement, resulting in a 90% drop in scam ad reports throughout the year.

The data reflects a growing commitment to protecting users and maintaining integrity within the digital advertising ecosystem, especially in the face of increasingly sophisticated threats.
