G7 Leaders Urge De-Escalation Amid Rising Israel-Iran Tensions

G7 leaders urge de-escalation in the Middle East but avoid demanding a full ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The group’s summit in Canada concluded with a joint statement supporting Israel’s right to defend itself while criticizing Iran’s role in regional instability.

The leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, signed the statement before Trump left early. Although the G7 leaders urge de-escalation, they stopped short of pushing for an immediate Israel-Iran truce. Trump’s early departure sparked speculation, but he denied it was linked to ceasefire talks.

“I have to be back early for obvious reasons,” Trump told reporters. Later, he dismissed claims by French President Emmanuel Macron that he was working on a ceasefire. “Wrong! He has no idea why I’m going to Washington,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Kananaskis summit focused heavily on the escalating Israel-Iran conflict. Israeli airstrikes have killed over 224 in Iran, while Iranian attacks claimed at least 24 lives in Israel. Despite calls for peace, G7 leaders urge de-escalation without committing to stronger action.

Meanwhile, Trump alarmed many by urging Iranians to “immediately evacuate Tehran.” U.S. officials denied plans to join Israel’s offensive, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced increased military deployments to the region.

Before leaving, Trump finalized a U.S.-UK trade deal, calling it a win for both nations. He also hinted at a potential agreement with Canada within 30 days. However, disagreements surfaced over Russia’s 2014 expulsion from the G8, which Trump called a “big mistake.”

With Trump skipping planned talks with Ukraine and Mexico, attention shifts to Washington. As the G7 leaders urge de-escalation, the world watches whether diplomacy can prevent further violence. For now, the conflict shows no signs of slowing.
