Federal Charges Filed in Deadly Brooklyn Bar Shooting

A man now faces federal charges for a violent incident. This follows a tragic Brooklyn bar shooting that killed three people. Furthermore, ten other individuals suffered injuries. Prosecutors unsealed a criminal complaint on Wednesday. They also released dramatic security footage. This video shows the chaotic gunfight inside the club.

The event occurred on August 17. It happened at the Taste of City Lounge. This bar is in the Crown Heights area. The newly public video depicts a terrifying scene. Consequently, patrons desperately scrambled for cover. Bullets flew wildly across the crowded room.

Therefore, authorities identified one shooter as Elijah Roy. He is twenty-five years old. They say he is a gang member. Roy arrived at the lounge with several associates. Then a confrontation erupted around 3:30 a.m. One of Roy’s associates, Marvin St. Louis, began taunting a rival. This rival was Jamel Childs, a member of a different gang. The situation escalated extremely quickly.

Suddenly, St. Louis fired at Childs. Immediately, Childs returned fire. Tragically, both men died from their wounds. Another man, Amadou Diallo, was also killed. Officials believe he was an innocent bystander. Meanwhile, Elijah Roy reacted to the violence. He ducked under a table for protection. Then he fired two shots himself. However, it remains unclear if he hit anyone.

Moreover, prosecutors have now charged Roy. His charges include violent assault for racketeering. He is also charged with illegal ammunition possession. Roy was arrested last week in North Carolina. Authorities say he was carrying seven thousand dollars in cash. A judge ordered him held without bail after his arraignment.

This violent Brooklyn bar shooting was gang-related. Officials linked Roy and St. Louis to the 5-9 Brims. This group is a subset of the Bloods gang. Their rival, Childs, belonged to the Folk Nation Gangster Disciples. The gunfight represents a spike in violence. Interestingly, New York City overall is experiencing record-low gun violence. The first nine months of 2025 show the fewest shootings citywide.

Following the August incident, Mayor Eric Adams spoke at a vigil. He addressed the community’s pain. He stated the event does not reflect the entire city. The investigation into the Brooklyn bar shootingcontinues. Federal authorities are leading the effort for justice.
