Democrats Oppose Boulder Resolution in Controversial House Vote

Democrats oppose Boulder resolution in a dramatic House vote that highlighted growing partisan divides. The resolution passed 280-113. Seventy-five Democrats joined Republicans to support the measure. Six lawmakers, including five Democrats, voted “present.”

The resolution came from Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Colo., after a violent incident in Boulder. It condemned the attack and also addressed broader immigration concerns. Many Democrats disagreed with the language used in the text.

Additionally, Evans referenced the case of Mohammed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national. Soliman overstayed a visa and allegedly tried to burn peaceful protesters. He is now facing federal terror-related charges. The incident sparked fresh debate over visa enforcement.

Evans used the case to highlight flaws in immigration policy. He warned that ignoring visa overstays leads to serious threats. The resolution also praised federal law enforcement and ICE for protecting the country. It emphasized cooperation between local and federal agencies as key to public safety.

Democrats oppose Boulder resolution because they believe it politicizes a serious issue. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called it a “joke” and said it wasn’t a real solution to antisemitism. He accused Evans of using fear to push a political agenda.

Evans responded online. He defended his background as a soldier and police officer. He claimed the Democratic leadership refuses to face hard truths about terrorism and illegal immigration.

In contrast, another antisemitism-focused resolution received strong bipartisan support. That bill, led by Reps. Jeff Van Drew and Joe Neguse, passed 400-0. It focused solely on rising antisemitism and avoided immigration issues. Only two lawmakers voted “present.”

Van Drew still defended Evans’ effort. He said it raised valid concerns, especially in light of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. He listed several past cases, including the murder of Laken Riley.

Democrats oppose Boulder resolution, but the vote shows deeper conflicts over immigration and security policy. The debate is far from over, as more lawmakers push for reforms.
