Communist Mayor Controversy Escalates in NYC Race

The race for New York City’s mayoral seat has taken a dramatic turn. Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani is at the center. Outside his Queens apartment on Friday, Mamdani refused to answer questions.

When pressed about being called a “communist,” Mamdani only laughed. He avoided all questions related to his far-left statements. He also declined to comment on whether he plans to retract previous remarks.

Tensions are rising as Mamdani prepares to face off against Mayor Eric Adams, Curtis Sliwa, and Andrew Cuomo. Former President Donald Trump responded strongly. On the Truth Social, he called Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic.”

Trump criticized Mamdani’s looks, voice, and political allies. He linked Mamdani to far-left figures like AOC and Senator Chuck Schumer. Trump said Mamdani’s win marks a dangerous moment in U.S. political history.

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in. He called Mamdani’s rise “the greatest marketing campaign for Florida.” Trump Jr. said if Mamdani wins, it may push NYC into “rock bottom.” He expressed deep concern as a lifelong New Yorker.

Critics are digging up Mamdani’s past. A 2020 tweet quoting Karl Marx resurfaced. Mamdani wrote, “Each according to their need, each according to their ability.” Mayor Adams shared the tweet and highlighted its Marxist roots.

Another old video of Mamdani recently gained attention. In it, he argues for housing for all and questions private property systems. He said a system that guarantees housing—regardless of its label—would be better than the current one.

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis called his views “communist ideas straight from Karl Marx’s playbook.” She pointed to Mamdani’s interest in abolishing private property and seizing production control.

Despite the backlash, Mamdani remains on schedule to meet House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries this week. That meeting could further shape his campaign and public response.

As the race intensifies, the idea of a communist mayor in New York is fueling strong reactions. Supporters say he offers bold solutions. Critics warn he could drive the city into crisis.

In Conclusion, the communist mayor debate continues to overshadow other policy discussions. With every passing day, the city moves closer to a turning point.

And that turning point may soon define what kind of future New York City chooses. Will voters embrace a communist mayor, or reject that vision entirely?
