Clyde Warns Federal Judges: Stop Blocking Trump’s Policies or Face Consequences

Republican Representative Andrew Clyde strongly criticized judges who have blocked the implementation of former President Trump’s policies.

Clyde warned that he may introduce articles of impeachment against District Judge John McConnell, who previously issued a motion requiring the Trump administration to comply with a restraining order. That order temporarily halted the administration’s attempts to suspend federal grants and loans.

McConnell has since faced backlash from Trump supporters and conservative figures, who have accused him of judicial activism. Their criticism intensified after a 2021 video resurfaced in which McConnell emphasized the role of courts in upholding the rule of law and preventing arbitrary actions by those in power.

In the video, McConnell also spoke about the importance of judges recognizing the diverse backgrounds of individuals who come before them, highlighting factors such as race, gender, and economic status.

Clyde acknowledged that judges are entitled to their perspectives but insisted they should avoid overt political bias. He argued that judges like McConnell and Engelmayer risk creating conflicts of interest by making politically charged statements.

Since the beginning of the administration, legal and advocacy groups, local governments, and elected officials have filed more than 70 lawsuits challenging policies, including executive actions on birthright citizenship, efforts to cut government spending, and the removal of certain federal employees.

Regarding legal disputes over government spending reforms, Clyde expressed confidence that the president would ultimately win in court, citing constitutional authority under Article II. However, he criticized judicial rulings that temporarily block presidential actions, arguing they hinder efforts to eliminate inefficiency, fraud, and abuse in government.

Clyde is collaborating with Representative Eli Crane, who is also pursuing impeachment articles against another federal judge. He urged fellow lawmakers to support their efforts, asserting that judges obstructing Trump’s policies must be held accountable.
