Charlie Kirk Honored With Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The White House Rose Garden hosted the ceremony on October 14, 2025. Kirk’s assassination occurred just over a month earlier. By presenting the award, Trump honored Kirk’s legacy as a conservative activist and pro-life advocate while inspiring new generations.

Shawn Carney, president and CEO of 40 Days for Life, praised Trump’s decision. He called Trump “the most pro-life president we’ve ever had.” Carney explained that Charlie Kirk embodied freedom and free speech. He added that Kirk’s work built the foundation of the pro-life movement and encouraged Americans to speak out.

Carney described how Kirk traveled across the country and the globe to participate in debates. Moreover, Kirk confronted critics with an approachable and humble demeanor. As a result, young people joined activism and became motivated to support the pro-life cause.

“So many people have been affected by abortion,” Carney said. Therefore, he noted that Kirk’s approachable style encouraged newcomers to join 40 Days for Life vigils. In addition, Kirk showed that reason, humility, and faith can change hearts.

Kirk’s assassination spurred greater participation in pro-life activism. Consequently, Carney reported a 36% increase in involvement during one of the organization’s largest fall campaigns. Young activists, inspired by Kirk, even brought family members to join local prayer vigils.

Carney shared stories of young people overcoming fear to speak out. One young woman credited Kirk’s influence for motivating her. Similarly, a TPUSA chapter leader urged peers to confront cultural challenges. He explained that Kirk would have wanted them to act boldly.

Carney stressed that the posthumous honor reinforces the importance of speaking truth with love. “Right now in our culture, there’s a lot of reasons to be afraid,” he said. Nevertheless, he added, “We cannot give in. We must act, and that honors Charlie best.”

The medal presentation highlighted Kirk’s influence on pro-life activism and young conservative leaders. Ultimately, his legacy continues to inspire civic engagement and political dialogue across the country.
