Biden Was in Good Shape, Insists Clinton Amid Growing Speculation
Former President Bill Clinton defended President Joe Biden’s mental sharpness in a recent CBS Sunday Morninginterview. Clinton made it clear that, in his view, Biden was in good shape throughout his time in office.
The conversation centered around the controversial book Original Sin. Journalists Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper co-wrote the exposé, which alleges a decline in Biden’s mental and physical abilities. The authors claim the White House deliberately shielded him from the public and misled allies to hide his condition.
Tracy Smith, the interviewer, asked Clinton whether he had ever seen Biden as unfit for office. Without hesitation, Clinton replied, “No. I thought he was a good president.” He added that Biden’s leadership was effective, and he never saw signs of deterioration.
Clinton acknowledged concerns about age but downplayed them. “The only issue,” he said, “was whether anyone could handle the job at 86.” Still, he emphasized that every time they spoke, Biden was in good shape and fully informed on critical matters.
“You never saw any cognitive decline?” Smith pressed.
“Never,” Clinton responded. “I haven’t read the book. But I saw him recently, and Biden was in good shape—both mentally and physically.”
Clinton also questioned the book’s motives. He said it appeared to blame Biden for Donald Trump’s reelection. In his view, the book aimed more to stir controversy than provide accurate insight. He found the narrative unconvincing and politically charged.
Although Clinton strongly supported Biden, he and Hillary Clinton quickly endorsed Kamala Harris after Biden announced he wouldn’t run again. Their swift support reflected a broader party pivot.
Since the book’s release, Democrats and mainstream media have faced backlash. Critics accuse them of hiding Biden’s challenges until it became politically inconvenient. Many now wonder whether transparency was sacrificed during Biden’s presidency.
Despite the growing scrutiny, Clinton’s message remains steady: Biden was in good shape, stayed mentally fit, and never gave him reason to doubt his capacity to lead.
