Annie Tomasini, a former senior Biden aide, invoked the Fifth Amendment during a private session with House investigators. Her appearance marked the latest development in the growing probe into President Joe Biden’s alleged cognitive decline.
On Friday, Tomasini met with the House Oversight Committee for less than an hour. She refused to answer questions from reporters before and after the meeting. A source close to the investigation confirmed she repeatedly cited her right against self-incrimination.
This marks the third time a former Biden official has taken this route. Tomasini’s decision raises more questions for investigators looking into a possible cover-up.
Sources say she declined to answer whether Biden, his family, or White House officials told her to lie. She also refused to discuss classified documents found in Biden’s garage or any effort to hide related information.
The Oversight Committee issued a subpoena after Tomasini’s legal team reportedly requested one. Originally, she was scheduled to appear voluntarily. Committee Chair James Comer later confirmed her refusal to testify.
“Another key witness in the Biden mental decline probe has chosen silence,” Comer stated. “There is a troubling pattern here.”
Two other Biden insiders, Kevin O’Connor and Anthony Bernal, also invoked the Fifth when questioned. The trio’s actions suggest a coordinated effort to avoid legal exposure, Comer claims.
Republicans continue pressing the investigation forward. They aim to uncover whether senior staff concealed Biden’s mental and physical condition. Questions remain over whether executive decisions were authorized without Biden’s full awareness.
The president, however, denies any suggestion of decline. Speaking to The New York Times, Biden insisted he makes every decision personally. Still, the repeated refusal to testify fuels GOP allegations. They argue that these aides are hiding vital truths.
A Democratic source defended the officials, calling the inquiry a political stunt. “They want one contradiction,” the source said, “so Trump’s DOJ can attack opponents.”
Despite pushback, the committee shows no signs of slowing down. The search for answers about the Biden mental decline continues. Investigators insist the public deserves transparency.
Tomasini’s silence has only intensified calls for accountability. With more subpoenas likely, the Biden mental decline probe is far from over.
