Better Voice Control Coming to Google Home Devices

After months of frustration, Google Home users may finally have something to look forward to. Google has confirmed that it’s working on better voice control on Google Home devices. While improvements won’t arrive immediately, they are coming this fall.

In recent weeks, complaints about Google Home and Nest devices have flooded forums like Reddit. Users describe the smart speakers and displays as unreliable, sluggish, and often incorrect. Voice commands are often misunderstood or ignored, and some users say their devices now feel “dumber” than ever.

Common issues include devices turning off the wrong appliances, taking too long to respond, or failing to carry out confirmed commands. For example, users report saying, “turn off the fan,” and having the lights go out instead. Others have asked for timers, only to hear a confirmation and then see nothing happen. Even simple commands like “play music” sometimes launch a web search instead.

Many users now avoid their devices altogether. Some long-time users say they’ve stopped using their Google Nest Hubs for anything beyond checking the time. For a product meant to make homes smarter, the experience has become frustrating.

While Google continues to expand its Gemini AI to phones and tablets, it has clearly neglected the Home and Nest lineup. This shift in focus has only made things worse for smart home users.

However, Google has acknowledged the problem. Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer of Google Home and Nest, recently addressed user concerns in a post on X. He apologized for the poor experience and promised changes are on the way.

Kattukaran explained that Google is working on a long-term fix, not just a short-term patch. The goal is to deliver more reliable and responsive devices with better voice control on Google Home products. He added that the team has already begun working on these improvements and plans to reveal more details this fall.

For now, users will need to remain patient. But Google’s promise of better voice control on Google Home could be worth the wait. If successful, it may restore trust and functionality to a smart home experience that many feel has fallen behind.
