Assisted Living Facility Fire 10th Victim Alive

The 10th reported victim of the assisted living facility fire is still alive, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Initially, officials announced her death, but later corrected the report due to a communication error with a medical agency. The woman remains in critical condition.

The fire erupted at the Gabriel House Assisted Living Facility in Fall River, resulting in the deaths of nine residents and numerous injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze. Several victims were pronounced dead on-site, while others were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Among those who tragically lost their lives were elderly residents ranging in age from their 60s to their 80s. The facility housed many vulnerable seniors, which made the incident particularly devastating for the community.

Authorities discovered multiple violations at Gabriel House during past inspections. These included failures to report emergencies within the required time frame and unsafe storage of medications. Such violations raised concerns about the facility’s overall safety standards.

The facility had submitted a plan of correction and obtained a certificate to operate until late next year. However, former employees painted a grim picture. A certified nursing assistant described the place as infested with pests and unsanitary. She also reported that the elevator had been unreliable for years, forcing some residents to remain isolated in their rooms.

Meanwhile, local officials expressed frustration with the facility’s owner. The mayor criticized the owner’s lack of cooperation and stressed the importance of accountability. He emphasized that the residents deserve proper care and attention.

Families affected by the assisted living facility fire have begun seeking legal representation. A law firm has launched an investigation to uncover potential negligence. Their focus includes staffing levels, staff training, code violations, and the condition of fire safety equipment such as alarms and sprinklers.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for stricter oversight in assisted living facilities. The community hopes that justice will bring closure and prevent similar disasters in the future.
