Apple Plans Major Design Overhaul for iOS 19, Inspired by visionOS

Apple is reportedly planning a significant redesign for iOS 19 that will “fundamentally change” the look of the iPhone’s operating system, according to recent reports. This overhaul is expected to be “one of the most dramatic software revamps” in iPhone history.

The upcoming redesign is said to be “loosely” inspired by visionOS, the operating system that powers Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This suggests the new design could feature more rounded app icons and interface elements that align with the Vision Pro’s aesthetic.

The changes won’t be limited to iOS alone. Similar design updates are reportedly planned for iPadOS and macOS to create a more consistent look across Apple’s three primary software platforms. The redesign is expected to include refreshed icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.

Industry observers note this will likely be “the biggest revamp since iOS 7,” which was released in 2013 and brought significant changes to the notification center, Siri, and app icons.

While Apple previously announced plans for a “more personalized” version of Siri, the company recently confirmed delays to this feature until later in the “coming year.” This suggests the focus of iOS 19 may shift from Apple Intelligence features to the design overhaul.

The tech giant is expected to unveil iOS 19 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which typically takes place in June. The design changes could serve as the centerpiece of the event, potentially overshadowing the delayed AI features that Apple is still working to implement.
