Apple Music Introduces Transfer Tool to Simplify Switching from Spotify

Apple Music has launched a new feature that makes it easier for users to switch from Spotify and other services. The Apple Music Transfer Tool allows users to move their playlists, albums, and songs quickly and directly into Apple Music. Right now, this feature is only available in Australia and New Zealand.

Apple partnered with SongShift to build this tool. SongShift is known for helping users transfer music between platforms. Now, Apple has brought that technology directly into its app, removing the need to use third-party services separately.

Early signs of the feature appeared in February 2024. Back then, an Android user noticed it in a beta version of the Apple Music app. Since then, Apple has been testing the tool. It now appears to be rolling out gradually, starting with the two countries.

To start the transfer, users can open the Settings app on their iPhone or iPad. Then, they need to go to “Apps,” choose Apple Music, and tap on “Transfer Music from Other Music Services.” This option shows a list of supported platforms. Users can pick the playlists or albums they want to move.

The tool will search Apple’s catalog to find matching songs. If it can’t find an exact match, Apple will flag those items as “Needs Review.” At that point, users can pick from alternate versions manually.

However, there are a few limitations. The Apple Music Transfer Tool only supports playlists created by the user. It won’t transfer playlists made by Spotify or other services. Also, the original music on Spotify stays unchanged. Nothing gets deleted or lost in the process.

This tool is a major step forward for Apple. Many users stay with Spotify because they don’t want to rebuild their entire music library. With the Apple Music Transfer Tool, switching becomes far less painful. That could help Apple Music attract more users who value convenience and seamless integration.

Apple hasn’t shared when the feature will launch in other countries. However, based on past rollouts, global availability could come soon.
