Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took direct aim at the Trump administration during a heated town hall in Jackson Heights, Queens. She used the event to condemn policies she described as dangerous and undemocratic. Her focus remained sharp as she criticized immigration enforcement, budget cuts, and what she called repeated attacks on free speech.
The town hall came one day after her fiery speech at a May Day rally in New York City. There, she warned that Medicaid would be the next Republican target. In Queens, she picked up where she left off.
She accused the Trump administration of conducting what she called “sanctioned kidnappings” through aggressive deportations. Ocasio-Cortez said these actions harm immigrant communities and violate basic rights. She encouraged people to demand judicial warrants from immigration agents. Her advice received strong support from the crowd.
She also confronted former ICE director Tom Homan directly. Homan had previously threatened to refer her to the Justice Department. Ocasio-Cortez fired back, saying, “Come for me.” She insisted she would continue to inform immigrants of their legal protections. This, she argued, was her constitutional right.
At the same time, she criticized Trump’s environmental policy rollbacks and budget cuts. She said the administration consistently attacks programs that support clean air, clean water, and public health. According to her, these cuts reflect a pattern of attacks on free speech and truth.
A disruption briefly interrupted the event. A protester shouted about the conflict in Gaza, accusing Ocasio-Cortez of ignoring suffering. While the audience responded with boos, she tried to respond calmly. Eventually, staff escorted the protester out.
Despite the clash, Ocasio-Cortez stayed on message. She urged supporters to fight back against what she called coordinated attacks on free speech. She warned that such attacks are becoming normalized.
The congresswoman ended the evening with a call to action. She asked attendees to stay engaged, protect civil liberties, and speak out. Through all challenges, she said, defending truth and rights matters most.
In her words and actions, she vowed to keep opposing all forms of attacks on free speech.
