A deadly Kentucky church shooting left two women dead and three others injured, including a state trooper. The incident began near Blue Grass Airport and ended at a nearby church in Lexington, Kentucky.
Initially, the violence started when a Kentucky State Police trooper stopped a suspicious vehicle. A license plate reader had flagged the suspect’s car. As the trooper approached, the suspect fired multiple shots and injured the officer. Fortunately, the trooper is stable and receiving treatment.
Immediately afterward, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. He then drove to Richmond Road Baptist Church, located a short distance from the airport. Inside the church, the suspect opened fire again. As a result, four additional victims were shot—two women and two men.
Tragically, the two female victims, Christina Combs and Beverly Gum, died on the scene. One male victim remains in critical condition, while the other is now stable. Consequently, emergency medical teams worked quickly to provide aid.
Shortly after the second shooting, Lexington Police responded to the church. Officers confronted the suspect and shot him during the encounter. According to officials, the suspect died at the scene. Investigators believe he may have had a personal connection to the church or its members.
Although the motive remains unclear, the police chief described the church as small and close-knit. Many members of the congregation are friends or relatives. However, he did not confirm whether the victims were related.
Meanwhile, emergency crews from the Lexington Fire Department rushed to both locations. They provided urgent medical support and helped secure the area. Moreover, police temporarily closed several roads near the scenes to ensure public safety.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity. They plan to do so after notifying the suspect’s family.
Currently, the investigation into the Kentucky church shooting is ongoing. Officials continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Furthermore, they encourage anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately.
Undoubtedly, the Kentucky church shooting has shocked the community. In response, officials are calling for unity and vigilance as Lexington begins to heal from the tragic events.
