An Arkansas man survived a terrifying ordeal after he escaped a burning truck by jumping 20 feet off an overpass in Kentucky. The driver escaped burning truck just seconds before it exploded and plunged to the highway below. His quick thinking and bravery saved his life.
The incident happened when the Louisville Fire Department received reports of a semi-truck fire on Interstate 65 South, near downtown Louisville. Upon arriving, firefighters found the truck partially hanging off the overpass, with flames rapidly engulfing the vehicle. Immediately, they worked to control and extinguish the fire.
According to the driver’s wife, Shannon Teixeira, he fought desperately to escape the burning truck. Trapped inside, he tried the doors and windows, searching for a way out. When the flames grew closer, he finally forced open the passenger door. Without hesitation, he jumped more than 20 feet down to the road below just before the truck exploded.
Emergency crews quickly attended to the driver, identified as Jeffrey Walker by local news outlet WLKY. Fortunately, he suffered only non-life-threatening injuries despite the dramatic fall. Walker broke his leg, foot, and ankle, and he now requires surgery. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crash caused significant traffic disruptions. Officials closed all lanes on Interstate 65 South near the Kennedy Bridge as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews responded to clear the scene. Meanwhile, firefighters kept the blaze under control to prevent further damage.
Mayor Craig Greenberg expressed relief that the driver escaped burning truck without serious injuries. He praised the firefighters for their swift action and confirmed no other injuries occurred. The mayor also noted that a similar crash happened recently and promised ongoing safety improvements.
