Father Sues Driver Over Daughter’s Fatal Crosswalk Death

A father has filed a lawsuit against a 71-year-old driver who fatally struck his 10-year-old daughter in a fatal crosswalk accident in Florida. The tragic incident happened near Sugar Mill Elementary School in Port Orange, just as the school year was ending. ShaoLan “Lana” Kamaly, a fourth-grader, was crossing the street when the SUV hit her in the fatal crosswalk. She sadly did not survive the accident.

Local police issued a traffic citation to the SUV driver, Pamela Schulz, for failing to exercise due care toward a pedestrian in the fatal crosswalk. However, authorities noted that Schulz was not driving recklessly or speeding at the time of the fatal crosswalk crash. Schulz later entered a no-contest plea and was fined but faced no further criminal charges.

ShaoLan’s father, Keivan Kamaly, took legal action by suing both Schulz and the vehicle’s owner, Douglas Ente. He claims Schulz negligently failed to stop at a stop sign and did not keep a proper lookout, leading to the fatal crosswalk collision. The lawsuit accuses Schulz of carelessness resulting in the death of his daughter while she was lawfully crossing the street.

Kamaly is seeking compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other damages allowed under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act. The lawsuit highlights the devastating loss caused by the fatal crosswalk incident and the impact it has had on the family.

Lana’s obituary describes her as a bright and joyful child. It states that she brought happiness to those around her with her warm smile, genuine compliments, and boundless curiosity. Lana loved reading, writing, composing music, acting, and wearing her favorite dress on happy days.

This heartbreaking case serves as a reminder of the importance of pedestrian safety, especially near schools. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon. Meanwhile, the legal process moves forward as Lana’s family seeks justice for the fatal crosswalk tragedy.
