A Virginia woman had a truly unforgettable experience during a night out at a Mexican restaurant when she discovered a snake in her margarita. Carletta Andrews and her husband were enjoying a meal at Patron Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in Sandston when the unexpected encounter occurred.
As Andrews leaned in for a sip, something struck her forehead. Confused, she glanced at her husband, only to turn around and find a baby snake wriggling in her drink. “When I turned around, I saw the snake in my margarita,” she told news outlets. To her horror, the snake wrapped itself around her straw as it moved.
The restaurant staff tried to remove the snake with a stick, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Another diner eventually grabbed the reptile and took it outside. Shaken, Andrews decided to leave rather than accept an offer to be moved to another seat. “I left shaking, I was traumatized,” she shared.
Now, Andrews is concerned there may be more snakes in the restaurant. “Is the mom there?” she wondered aloud, given that the snake in her drink was a baby.
The owner of the restaurant suggested the snake likely entered through the air conditioning unit and confirmed that no measures have been taken to prevent future incidents. In addition, records from the Virginia Department of Health revealed the restaurant had multiple violations during a previous inspection, including mold, broken handles, and a missing ceiling tile. These violations were corrected shortly after the inspection.
Patron Mexican Restaurant and Cantina has two locations in Virginia: one in Sandston and another in Chester. The restaurant has not yet commented on the incident.
